Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was raised and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her an opportunity to be the curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family later moved to the historic mansion. She was a graduate in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was a vocal music major. Sullivan performed as the contralto in the children's choir and later sang in the adult choir. Sullivan experienced only a small amount of secular music. She recalls that she was in her 11th year when someone asked her to sing solos at church. But, she wasn't yet ready for. "I had the privilege of being able to be selected for in a McDonald's competitionthat offered kids from the major cities the opportunity to perform 'Accept the things God allows'. The audience responded well." Stevie Wonder sang her part to celebrate the birthday of her son at the age of thirteen. Sullivan, at age 15 began her career with Jive Records. As a teenager, she was signed to Jive Records. She recorded an entire album, but it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was then dropped at the hands of the company. Missy Elliott was her producer on a couple of tracks on Her debut album. The most notable of these was "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland that Elliott created was one of Sullivan's top tracks.
